New insulation attachment method eliminates compatibility bondline stresses

Auger-shaped single-point fastener attaches rigid surface insulation tiles to orbiter shuttle spacecraft. Method can be used to bond wide variety of materials, including insulation, elastomers, and fibrous materials. Since insulation is attached at only one point, insulation and structure are free to form without inducing bond separation

Limited resources, CO2 debate and protection of our environment are subjects of public discussion nowadays. There is a consensus that the efficient use of energy will be one of the challenges with the highest priority in the future. From building services engineering to passenger and freight transport – there will be significant changes in all areas of daily life

Long term spectral irradiance measurements of a 1000-watt xenon arc lamp

    Get PDF
Spectral irradiance measurements over the range of 200 to 1060 nm were made on a 1000-watt xenon arc lamp over a period of 1500 hours. Four sets of measurements were made after periods of 70, 525, 1000, and 1500 hours of operation. The lamp (Hanovia Compact Xenon Arc Lamp) was mounted in the NASA Solar Irradiation System. When used in the System, the lamp is used as the radiating source for six test stations. Measurements were made of both the longterm stability (or variation of spectral irradiance as a function of time) and the actual spectral irradiance incident on the test specimen

Data for the beam-leaded silicon-on-sapphire (SOS) process using the TA5388 dual-complementary pair plus inverted circuit show the stability of the dc device characteristics through the complete beam-lead processing and packaging steps. A more complex circuit, the TA6567 - a silicon-gate, voltage-sense BL/CMOS/SOS 256-bit RAM, has also been made that was functionally perfect at wafer probe. Efforts to increase the yield of this circuit and to obtain electrically perfect packaged units are discussed

Density of states as a probe of electrostatic confinement in graphene

    Get PDF
We theoretically analyze the possibility to confine electrons in single-layer graphene with the help of metallic gates, via the evaluation of the density of states of such a gate-defined quantum dot in the presence of a ring-shaped metallic contact. The possibility to electrostatically confine electrons in a gate-defined ``quantum dot'' with finite-carrier density, surrounded by an undoped graphene sheet, strongly depends on the integrability of the electron dynamics in the quantum dot. With the present calculations we can quantitatively compare confinement in dots with integrable and chaotic dynamics, and verify the prediction that the Berry phase associated with the pseudospin leads to partial confinement in situations where no confinement is expected according to the arguments relying on the classical dynamics only.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure
